Perhaps contrary to what a denimhead has in mind when buying a pair of jeans – to wear them down through daily use and give them a unique appearance – at Redcast, we provide an alternative for those who want quality selvedge jeans in their wardrobe without having to wear them for months to achieve that worn look. This is the best solution for those seeking quality selvedge denim without the necessity of months of wear.
Crafted from lightweight black selvedge denim woven by Kuroki Mills, the CT-222xs stands out with its remarkable black color achieved through a unique washing process. Unlike typical stonewashed jeans that might appear artificial, 3sixteen adopted a different approach to preserve the fabric's character. Distressing on wear points that you see on jeans and jackets rarely match up with where a wearer's body moves and show a strange, unnatural high contrast without any depth. Thus, when 3sixteen set off to develop the wash treatment for these jeans, those techniques were all off the table - no sanding, no laser distressing, no harsh chemicals. Instead, the guys from 3sixteen wanted to ensure that the character of the fabric was not only preserved but brought to the forefront, that the beautiful vertical streaking that is characteristic of their denim as it ages would still show through prominently.
Finally, 3sixteen wanted to try and create an effect that quite honestly would not be achievable through natural wear. Unless the owner washes his jeans on a weekly basis (which, on top of being a lot of work, would be an extraordinary waste of water) there's really no way to achieve the color that is exhibited here. They worked closely with a wash house in Los Angeles to develop a multi-stage process that includes a pumice stone wash, light bleach, and softeners to yield the perfect shade of grey.
They feature a Classic Tapered cut with a mid-high rise, room in the top block, and a taper from the knee down, making them suitable for both summer and year-round wear.
Please note that this model tends to run slightly big, so we recommend going one size down. However, as always, we suggest taking a look at our size chart for the perfect fit.
